Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of Second Read, available at getsecondread.com. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

1. Who we are

Second Read is operated by Pedro Quartiero, an individual based in Brazil (“we”, “us”). The service provides rubric-based feedback, scores, and craft flags on college application essays, together with reference pages listing schools’ published essay prompts and deadlines. 2. What Second Read is — and is not

Second Read is a coaching and feedback tool. It reads the essay you wrote and returns feedback: scores against a fixed rubric, margin-note-style comments anchored to specific passages, and a prioritized list of things to improve. It tells you what is weak and why. The writing remains yours.

Second Read is not a writing service. The service never writes, rewrites, edits, or generates essay text or any part of it — not a sentence, not a phrase. There is no feature in the product that produces essay prose, and there never will be one under these terms.

Attempting to use the service to generate essay content — for example, by crafting inputs intended to make the review engine output text you could paste into an essay — is a violation of these terms and grounds for account termination without refund.

3. Academic integrity

You are responsible for your own work and for complying with each school’s policies on outside feedback and AI use. Our feedback model is designed to fall within the policies that schools commonly publish — feedback and brainstorming permitted, substantive content generation not — but policies vary and change. You must verify the rules of each school you apply to. Where a school publishes an AI policy we know about, we link to it on that school’s page, but the school’s own site is always the authority.

4. No guarantee of outcomes

Feedback from Second Read is opinion — a structured, consistent opinion, but an opinion. We make no promise that following it will improve any essay, and no promise of admission to any school. Nobody can honestly promise that, and we do not.

5. Accounts and eligibility

  • You must be at least 13 years old to create an account.
  • If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must review these terms with you and must complete any purchase on your behalf.
  • Keep your account credentials to yourself. You are responsible for activity under your account.
  • Provide a real email address; it is how we sign you in and how we reach you about your account.

6. Payments and the Season Pass

Payments are processed by Armitage Labs OÜ (trading as Creem), who act as our merchant of record and authorized reseller. Your purchase is therefore also subject to Creem’s Buyer Terms. Creem handles the transaction, taxes, and receipts; we never see your card number.

The person making a payment must be an adult with legal capacity to enter a contract. For users under 18, that means a parent or guardian completes the purchase.

The Season Pass 2026-27 is a one-time purchase, not a subscription. It covers the 2026-27 application cycle, through August 31, 2027, and is subject to a fair-use cap of 150 reviews per pass. The cap exists to keep the service affordable; it is far above what a full application season normally needs.

Refunds are covered by our Refund Policy.

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • abuse, overload, or attempt to disrupt the service;
  • scrape the service with automated tools;
  • attempt to access or extract other users’ data;
  • resell access to the service or share one account across multiple applicants;
  • use the service in any way intended to make it generate essay content (see section 2).

8. School data and accuracy

School prompts, deadlines, and policy summaries are compiled from official published sources. Every school page shows source links and a last-verified date. We work hard to keep this data correct, and every school page carries an error-report button; reported corrections are prioritized the same day.

Even so: application deadlines are consequential, and you must verify critical dates against the school’s own website before relying on them. Our data is a well-maintained reference, not a substitute for the official source.

9. Your essays

Your essays are yours. You retain all rights to everything you submit. We use your submissions only to operate the service — to generate the feedback you asked for — as described in our Privacy Policy. We never train AI models on your essays.

10. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any claim arising from the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. We are not liable for indirect or consequential damages, including admission outcomes. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Brazil. Where consumer protection law in your country of residence grants you rights that cannot be waived, those rights are unaffected.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If we make a material change, we will notify you by email at the address on your account before the change takes effect. Continued use after the effective date of a change means you accept it.
