Prompts not yet published for 2026-27 — we re-check after Aug 1.

Schools release supplements around the Common App opening on August 1. We publish prompt text only once it's confirmed against an official source — an empty section beats a wrong prompt. This page updates as soon as it's out.

The school's published AI policy

source

W&M acknowledges that "AI tools can be helpful for brainstorming, organizing ideas or refining grammar," but warns that essays leaning too heavily on AI lose the applicant's authentic voice and individual perspective. The stated expectation: "By submitting your application, you affirm that the materials submitted are your own original work - not primarily the product of AI." Applicants separately affirm through the Common App that their submission is "my own work, factually true and honestly presented," which W&M ties to its honor code tradition. The office emphasizes authenticity over polish.

How reviews use this page

When you request a review for a William & Mary supplement, the feedback is grounded in exactly what you see here: the prompt itself, its word limit, and what the school publishes about its values and programs. That's the whole claim — calibrated to the prompt and the school's own published guidance, scored against a consistent rubric. Not insider knowledge, and never a rewrite: Second Read is a coach, not a ghostwriter. It flags weaknesses and tells you what to fix and why; it never writes a sentence of your essay.
